Cancer presents far more than just a physical challenge. Alan believes that the mind/body/spirit connection can have a profound effect on the outcome of an illness, especially one that is described (at least at first) as “terminal.” As he explains in his book, Climb Back from Cancer, even among individuals of the same age, sex, diagnosis and prognosis, and who receive the same treatment at the same facility at the same time in the same hospital room, some survive and some do not. Is that purely physical? Alan does not believe it is.
Together with his former wife, Cecilia, Alan has distilled hundreds of lessons learned during his cancer experience into what they believe are the 20 essential psychological skills needed to maximize the chances of surviving cancer and thriving beyond it. There are 10 for patients/survivors and 10 for caregivers. Get access to The 10 Tools of Triumph and more.
